PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillies slugger Bryce Harper homered for the first time this season in the fifth inning, but Philadelphia lost its sixth straight game, 7-4 to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.The 30-year-old Harper, batting as the designated hitter, was playing in his fourth game since returning from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last Nov. 23. The two-time NL MVP drove a full-count 89 mph sinker from right-hander Corey Kluber (2-4) to the opposite field and over the wall in left-center with nobody on and one out, cutting Philadelphia’s deficit to 5-3. Driver slams into Kissimmee home after suffering seizure, wife says

A driver who lost control of his SUV slammed right through the wall of a home in Central Florida, and police believe he was suffering a medical emergency.Ring Surveillance captured the motorist’s vehicle as it sped down a sidewalk in a Kissimmee neighborhood, Thursday evening.The wife of the driver told Orlando’s Fox affiliate that he had a seizure.The driver slammed into a mailbox and another car before crashing into the home, leading to a desperate fire escape for the eight people inside.“Thank God my father came to pick [my daughter] up at the time that he did,” said resident Isaac Rivera. “It’s just really scary knowing that I could have woken up to not having a daughter anymore.”Rivera said he was upstairs and was forced to hop down a balcony, landing on debris below and hurting his leg.He said there is not much left for his family to salvage.“He was [going] at least 70, 80 miles per hour,” said neighbor Juan Azize.Azize sai...

72 veterans return to South Florida after Honor Flight to DC

Dozens of veterans touched down in South Florida after they took the trip of a lifetime to the nation’s capital.Seventy-two veterans were honored Saturday with a flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Washington, D.C., where they visited memorials built in their honor.The trip was a one-day mission that allowed them to reflect and tell their stories.U.S. Army veteran Frank Orilio, who fought during World War II, said this was a memorable occasion.“I’m in awe of this whole thing that was happening the whole day today, and with a parade for me. I can’t believe this at all. It’s unbelievable,” he said.Honor Flight South Florida has been honoring veterans across the U.S. for 10 years.

A generation of old friends, longtime couples and families raised on Gordon Lightfoot gathered Saturday night in the singer-songwriter’s Orillia, Ont., hometown to mark the passing of the Canadian music legend.By sheer coincidence — or as some suggested, a case of serendipity — a concert planned months ago as a tribute to Lightfoot as a living legend wound up being a celebration of a life well-lived. The musician died Monday at age 84.For Chicago residents Jan Goldsmith and her son Rick Goldsmith, saying goodbye to Lightfoot with a concert was essential. Warm temps bring the possibility of severe storms Sunday

1 seriously injured after stabbing in south Austin, officials say

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- One person was seriously injured after a reported stabbing in south Austin Saturday, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.Shortly before 9 p.m., the Austin Police Department and ATCEMS medics responded to the 1200 block of South Lamar Boulevard, an APD watch commander said.Medics transported an unidentified adult to the hospital with serious injuries.It was not immediately clear what led to the incident, and there was no information about a possible suspect or an arrest, according to police.The incident remained under investigation Saturday.
